The 69-year-old granny who reportedly told police that she shot a hotel maintenance worker after she thought he was a bandit, was yesterday charged and released on bail.
Leila Jagdeo, of Lot 3 Ogle, East Bank Demerara, was indicted for discharging a loaded firearm at Brandon Collins, a hotel maintenance worker at the Alpha Hotel, Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
Jagdeo was released on $100,000 bail after an appearance before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.
The incident occurred at around 06:45hrs on Thursday in the vicinity of the hotel.
Collins, of Manchester Village, Corentyne, was reportedly shot while clearing vines from a fence that separates the Alpha Hotel from the woman’s property.
It is alleged that Collins, who had a cutlass, had clambered onto the fence. The woman, who has a licenced firearm, ordered the man to climb down, then discharged a round, which struck Collins in the abdomen. The bullet is said to have passed through his body.
Jagdeo was instructed to return to court on May 22.
