Dear Editor,
Please allow me space to express our observations on crime and law enforcement in a particular area, Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara. As an organization, INDIAN VISION FOR NATIONAL HARMONY, we are seriously concerned with development and good governance which includes law enforcement. A visible, police presence is prevalent in our community and crimes reported at the Leonora Police Station are responded to with a measure of intent and urgency, much to the satisfaction of its residents.
Our organization met with the commander of the Leonora Police Station, Mr. Leslie James and we had a very intense discussion on alleviating crimes, police conduct and fostering racial harmony, which is one of our objectives. We were impressed with the Commander’s attention and his eagerness to assist with our concern.
Clearly, a signal of action is reverberating in our community when it comes to fighting crime, notably, the apprehension of murderers, livestock rustlers, resolving conflicts with neighbours and families. Although we cannot speak for the entire community, the general feeling is that Law Enforcement has improved and credit should be given to the Commander of the Leonora Police Station, Mr Leslie James and some of his staff, while there is room for improvement for other members under his command. We feel that the Commander’s effort in trying to make policing reputable is gaining positive results and whatever policies and programmes he intends to embark on in the future will certainly bring success to his division at large.
