After one year of business, Palm Springs Hotel continues to add class and vibrance to the mineral town’s rapid improvements. Palm Spring was open last year this time with little knowledge of what the future held.
But on its first anniversary since opening to Barticians and other citizens Palm Springs is happy to continue to serve its customers.
According to proprietrix, Rehanna Rahim, fondly known “Sally”, 37, the $500M investment one year ago is reason enough to continue to participate in the town’s development. She said that at present she has not made much profit but it’s the satisfaction she gives to her customers that makes her continue.
At an event to mark the occasion at the Hotel, last Sunday, she was emotional with the support she still gets from the public because of the standards that prevail at the establishment.
Notwithstanding the high staff turnover and some overreach in keeping standards, the young proprietrix said the standards that prevailed at the hotel are a costly venture but she will continue to upkeep them.
She encouraged others to dine at Palm Spring because she is passionate about a town where her husband, Mr Ramcharran Boodhoo, aka Gobin, 58, was born. They traded goods after their relationship grew; the Palm Springs owners are also owners of Triple R Enterprise, the second largest supermarket in the gold mining area of Mahdia.
The young entrepreneurs are now looking to add more dimension to what they offer with a planned acquisition of an area some fourteen miles by boat from the hotel to an area in Potaro.
At the location they intend to develop a waterfall so that persons stopping at Palm Springs can have an added adventure to enjoy. At the location, Boodhoo said people will travel overland for 14 miles from Bartica to the location and camp out.
According to him this adventure adds to his business since it is one many persons will embrace. The business is also giving back to the community. At the anniversary last Sunday the owners announced that they will be donating $200,000 in playground equipment to St John the Baptist primary school to aid with the development of the young population and the wider prosperity of the town.
The two entrepreneurs said that they will continue to upkeep standards so that persons further afield can be encouraged to visit and to bring added revenue to a town that is steadily improving. The businessman said that although some might have been tempted to exit the tough industry he and his wife will take risks.
They are optimistic that more persons will visit the hotel in the future and revenue will be boosted.
The hotel opened on March 26, 2016. It has a restaurant, 22 rooms, a swimming pool and high standards to complement the interior décor that is imaginative and re-elctive of the work of the young proprietrix who believes in a-hands-on approach as she and Bodhoo work as any other of the 25 employees that are under their employ.
The hotel is certified by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA). It works in partnership with GTA to ensure that Bartica can play a vital role in developing an industry that has not maximized its potentials in the view of some.
