Traffic ranks are awaiting the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Shalimar Ali-Hack
to proceed with charges regarding the death of four-year-old Ramkaran Mohan known as “Ram,” who was struck down by a car at Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, two Tuesdays ago.
The female driver of the vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio bearing registration number PVV 5084, was released on station bail.
Mohan, his seven-year-old brother and an uncle, Michael Plass were heading to a shop opposite their Lot 1088 Tuschen New Scheme home when he was struck down by the vehicle.
Reports are that the car struck the child and dragged him several feet from the point of impact.
He died at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, hours after he was transferred from the Leonora Cottage Hospital. At the time of the accident, the trio was waiting to cross the road.
The child’s grandmother, Bibi Khan said that Mohan was holding his uncle’s hand when the car dragged him away before coming to a stop.
The woman said that the driver on realizing that she had struck down the child transported him to the hospital.
Khan said that she made contact with the investigating rank in the matter but was not given any information on the status of the probe.
