Watooka, South Amelia win Region Ten Children Mash

Republic Avenue was transformed into a kaleidoscopic with iridescent colors as schools across Linden pulled out all the stops for the Region Ten Education Department and the Regional Mashramani Committee sponsored

The occasion was the annual schools Mashramani costume and float parade. It was deemed a resounding success by all.
The children in colorful costumes danced and pranced through the streets in glorious abandon as popular music blared from the trucks. They wended their way down Republic Avenue and Greenheart Street, and then into the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.
Several onlookers who lined the streets to view the beautiful spectacle ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ as the children passed along Republic Avenue. The massive turnout of children in their eye-catching costumes was an awesome sight to behold and many opined that it was the best schools costume and float parade in years.
Regular traffic was diverted through Pine Street and other alternative routes to accommodate the young revellers.
At the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, where the parade culminated, judges had their work cut out as they juggled points to determine the winners.
Finally the results were announced. In the Primary division Watooka Primary was declared winners, while Regma and Coomacka Primary were second and third place finishers.
Watooka Primary also copped the trophy for being most punctual.
In the Nursery category South Amelia’s Ward copped the number one position, while Retrieve nursery came in second place with Blue Berry Hill and One Mile Nursery tying for the third position. Wisroc Nursery was awarded the trophy for best banner. Apart from the Primary schools, 13 Nursery schools participated in the event.
A representative from the Education Department applauded the schools for the commendable presentations and also thanked the many sponsors who made the event possible (Enid Joaquin)
