Trinidad and Tobago-based Guyanese distance runner, Lionel D’Andrade stopped the clock at 19:45
to win The Hillview Grand Splash and Glow 5km race on Saturday at Tunapuna, Trinidad.
Trinidadians Troy Gale was second in 19:49 and Dominic Timothy third in 19:53 respectively. The Guyanese told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he is elated about completing the 2016 season on a high note given his rigorous year.
“I’ve had a great 2016! I competed in 48 races – the most races I’ve ever run in a year. I’ve been training hard and wanted to close off the year on a high,” he said.
The distance runner thanked his sponsor Builders Lumber Yard, who has been supporting him in his competitions throughout the past year. “I am looking forward to another great year in 2017,” D’Andrade added.
