The first Pollo Tropical restaurant was opened 109 years ago in Miami. It has since expanded its franchise all across the world including cities across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America, and now finally Pollo Tropical is in Guyana.
Pollo Tropical officially opened its doors to Guyana, yesterday at its Camp and Robb Street location. The Management and Staff of this Tropical restaurant invited passers-by, families and friends to enjoy a mixture of Caribbean flavours free of charge yesterday.
One such person that enjoyed this treat was the Minister of Public Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes. According to the Minister, “the food was great but I am a soup girl, I loved the soup this morning, I like the rice, the beans, the chicken, the sauce, I enjoyed everything”.
In addition, Minister Hughes said that, “I am excited that Pollo Tropical is here, what I like about it is that it is the Caribbean people’s fast-food.”

Minister of Public Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes, chats with Franchise Operations Manager, Mauro Feder at the opening yesterday.
The Minister said that she likes the fact that the owners are using cassava, plantains and many other local products.
“This all goes well for our economy. And so, instead of everything coming pre-pack and just opening it and throwing it into a frying pan, here is an opportunity that we can use and incorporate our Indigenous people.”
At Pollo Tropical, it is all about fresh food; the service is fast and the food is hot and delicious, this is according to the Manager of the Franchise Operations, Mauro Leder.
The sauces provided at the restaurant are their very own recipes. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of healthy fresh dishes, inclusive of marinated grilled chicken and unique side dishes such as black beans, yellow rice with vegetables, soups and much more.
Chief Executive Officer, Terrence Campbell, said that they have brought Pollo Tropical to Guyana because, “we all know Guyanese love chicken, but everybody is focused now on frying their chicken and increasingly people want a healthier option”. Further, Campbell said that Pollo Tropical offers grilled chicken with a lot of tropical flavours including guava BBQ sauce, pineapple rum sauce, and curry mustard to name a few choices.
Campbell said that they are, “giving Guyanese a healthier option in chicken, but it is as also as flavourable as your mother’s home cooked chicken.”
For now, Pollo Tropical will only be doing dishes with chicken and pork. However they will be including ribs on their menu in a few days. Rice and beans are also being offered.
Come 2017, Pollo Tropical will be including fish and shrimp on their menu, along with local fruit juices.
A Giftland Mall location for Pollo Tropical will also be opening soon.
