Dear Editor;
We the security guards of a certain company are like Israelites in the wilderness crying out for help. The only difference is that God heard their cries and came to their rescue; but is there anyone listening to our cries? I doubt! This security firm is making us more poverty stricken. It’s almost half way to end of the month of December, 2016 and as of this date we have not been paid yet for the month of November 2016. Our children had to miss their annual Christmas Party at school. Many days they can’t go to school and the due dates of our bills have already passed. Please note we not only have bills, but also reconnection fees since our utility services have been disconnected already.
Month after month we are being paid late. Is this the “Good Life” promised by our most patriotic and people concerned Government? In addition, this security firm dictates that we have to wear uniforms. But how can we? Uniform allowances are not given nor does the company provide uniforms. Can a minimum wage of $35,000.00 pay both our bills and provide uniforms? Also not to mention, we still have to purchase grocery and send our children to schools. No double pay on holidays, no extra pay for the extra hours we have to work until we are relieved of our duties. For instance, the eight hour shift from 07:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs, if the relieving guard doesn’t show up to replace the guard on duty, the guard on duty has to remain there until he/she is relieved even if it is until 1 or 2 hours after.
Where in the world would you find these sickening work standards? Moreover, annual vacation leave money is received in parcels. Again, is this the “Good Life” promised? If it is, then we might as well commit suicide! There seems to be no life at all for us. There are hundreds of guards employed across this nation with this company.
We are pleading with this government or whosoever is responsible for awarding the contract to this service to please refrain from doing so. This is our only wish for the New Year (2017). Help us to keep our children in schools as we are mostly single parents working with this firm, yet our children have nothing to eat. Thanks for your co-operation
