Dear Editor;
I have decided to write because we, the residents of Plantation Farm, East Bank, Demerara have been suffering from the non-supply of electricity. Houses are being built and people are moving in but there is no electricity.
After a long and arduous wait water was supplied promptly on the heels of a promise made by Dr. Van West Charles earlier this year. Water at first reached the water tanks at the lowest levels. Since then, the pressure is low, now the water pressure is at a drip. Houses at the lowest levels are not able to fill the tanks from that position. How can demands be made to pay for water not supplied.
The new Minister responsible for housing promised in six months’ time communities she listed will receive power supply, and Plantation Farm is one of those communities; to date nothing has begun and the six month period is about to expire.
When I was employed in Habitat for Humanity Guyana and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in California, I observed that in new housing areas roads, electricity and water were already in place so the electrical tools could be used, I am thankful that we do have roads and that water mains were in place before one house was constructed, but we need electricity and if electricity is taking so long it could be imagined the time it will take for telephone to be installed.
Ivan John
Pln. Farm, East Bank
