Carmelitta Thorman appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Ann McLennan,
on Friday, to answer to the charge of engaging in trafficking in persons.
It is alleged that between June 1 and July 30, last, at Omai, Region Seven, she recruited, transported, transferred and harboured a minor for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
The 33-year-old, who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her. This matter was held in-camera due to the virtual complainant being under age.
As Thorman was being escorted out of the courtroom by a police rank she wept uncontrollably. She was remanded to prison and will make her next court appearance on November 24.
