Pedal cyclist killed in WBD accident
A member of the Guyana Fire Service was taken into police custody after he struck and killed a 60-year-old pedal cyclist as he was crossing the Bagotville, West Bank Demerara (WBD) Public Road on Friday.
The accident occurred shortly after 19:30 hrs.
The victim has been identified as Clement Skeete, of Bagotville.
In a release, the Guyana Police Force said that the pensioner was crossing the public road when he was struck down.
He died while receiving treatment at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Kaieteur News understands Skeete was riding across the public road from west to east when a vehicle proceeding south along the eastern driveway struck him off his bicycle.
The driver of the vehicle was given a breathalyzer test but no trace of alcohol was recorded.
He remains in police custody.
