Rose Hall Town Jammers defeat Smithfield Warriors to book place in Final
– To play New Amsterdam Warriors
Rose Hall Town Jammers booked their place in the final of the A. Ally and Sons basketball tournament being played for teams in Berbice when they held their nerve to edge past Smithfield Rockers by a slim three points margin for a hard fought 51-48 win when play continued on Sunday with one game at the Fyrish Basketball Court.
With both teams looking for the win to make it into the final against top team New Amsterdam Warriors, the encounter lived up to pre-match expectations. The game was keenly contested with the Jammers being able to hold off the Rockers as the teams battled from tip off to the final whistle. Throughout the game none of the teams were able to gain a significant advantage as the score card would show.
At the end of the first quarter the scores read 12-11 in favour of the Rose Hall Town Jammers. At the end of the first half the scores hadn’t changed a lot with the Jammers taking a three points lead over the Rockers at 25-22.
During the second half both teams continued to play good defence with only 12 points being scored by both in the third quarter as that segment of play ended with the scores at 37-34.
With a spot in the final the ultimate goal, it was much of the same in the final period with tight defence and plenty hustling with the teams conceded 14 points each with the final whistle coming with the score at 51-48 to the enjoyment of the Rose Hall Town Jammers and the consternation of the Smithfield Rockers.
Top scoring for The Jammers was Michael King with 12 points, while Mickel Lewis 10 and Kebon Emmanuel 8 supported.
The Smithfield Rockers Neil Wills poured in a game high 17 all in vain as he received support from Michael Bowen 13 and Cledwin Cort 9.
The final is slated for Sunday beginning at 16:00 hrs between New Amsterdam Warriors and Rose Hall Town Jammers at the Rose Hall Town Court. There will be incentives for the top team and outstanding individual players.
Representatives of the sponsors will be on hand to assist with the presentation of prizes at the completion of the final. The coordinator is Vibert Garnett.
