Dear Editor,
Strong sets of rules of law are necessary for any country to be safe. Now that there is enough irrefutable evidence that both the past PPP and the current Granger led APNU/AFC are irresponsible with finance it is vital for Guyana to have an effective State Assets Recovery Unit (SARU). But one of the central tenets for the SARU to function effectively and efficiently is the personnel in its leadership. Clearly there are things wrong in SARU. That agency is packed with little men with little minds who all have a vindictive ambition. What they continue to overlook is that less than 5 percent of the East Indians of Guyana are considered as Guyana dollars millionaires. The facts of the matter will show that over one-third of the East Indians, like one-third of the African and more than 60% of the Amerindians are living below the poverty line.
So this targeting specifically of PPP supported businessmen by the SARU will undermine every single case that they are working on. All of the senior personnel chosen to function in SARU are unqualified in the relevant field to really find the white collar criminals. If one looks at Clive Thomas, Desmond Trotman, Aubrey Retmyer, and the worst of them all Eric Phillips, none of these men are certified forensic examiners, much less white-collar fraud investigators. They are political appointees who do not have a clue what they are doing at SARU. All they are doing every day is going on a wild goose chase.
