Parents and concerned residents of Linden are calling on the Police at Linden to conduct a full investigation into a recent incident at the Mackenzie High School, where graffiti was sprayed on the walls of the school buildings.
The school canteen was also burglarized.
The incident which occurred some time between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning has resulted in the closure of the school until Monday. This is reportedly the fifth time that graffiti has been used to deface the school building and resulted in disruption of the school.
The decision to close the school was sanctioned by the regional education department, as teachers reportedly refused to work until all the graffiti is removed.
“Most of what is spray painted on the walls, portray the teachers negatively and there is a lot of graphic and obscene language. There is also a lot of things written about ‘weed’; how we got to smoke weed and we got to smoke it every day. So right away we get the impression that whoever is behind this is involved with pushing marijuana.”
There are suspicions that the incident might be the work of a gang that currently hangs out in a community in close proximity to the school; and that the leader of the gang was once a student of the school. He was reportedly caught with marijuana on the school’s premises, and subsequently dropped out, after police were called in.
“We have an idea of who the perpetrators are because they wrote their initials, but we need the police to work with us,” a source claimed.
Reports indicate that it is the fifth time that sessions have been disrupted at the school because of graffiti on the buildings.
“This cannot continue- clearly there are persons out there who seem to have an agenda to tarnish and destroy the image of this school, and it has to stop.
“We have the police station just a stone’s throw away, so we need them to work with us,” a concerned parent emphasized.
Sources claimed that a guard at the school was only apprised of what had taken place at the school after a woman attached to the canteen went to do some baking at the facility around 4:00 hours.
A call was subsequently made to the Mackenzie Police station, but there were reports that there were no patrols, according to informed sources.
However Commander Calvin Brutus in an invited comment said that there are always patrols available and that investigation into the incident are ongoing.
