A 17-year-old of Kwakwani, Region 10 was yesterday remanded to prison after he was accused of raping
a 21-year-old woman back in May. Jaheem Hakim was not required to plead the indictable offence after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was unrepresented by an attorney.
Kaieteur News understands that the accused and virtual complainant (VC) are known to each other. It is alleged that the woman and Hakim were imbibing alcohol prior to the incident which reportedly occurred in a bushy area at Kwakwani.
The VC reported the matter to police and investigations were launched. According to reports, the VC provided detectives with a description of her attacker.
Hakim was found by investigators with the woman’s phone in his possession.
Police Inspector Neville Jeffers represented the prosecution. The Chief Magistrate transferred the case to the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court for September 16.
