The West Indies ‘A’ team tour Sri Lanka and their Test side journey to the United Arab Emeritus
(UAE) where they face number one ranked Pakistan later this month and as a consequence, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has organised a training camp for the players in Barbados from September 9.
This camp clashes with the DJ Stress Champions t20 Cup at Albion on Sunday September 11 under lights and since seven of the players set to participate in this event have been invited to the camp the organizers have been forced to postpone the t20 Cup to a date to confirmed next month.
The Pakistan Limited overs series ends on October 5. The Albion Event has already been sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) but the new date has to be reapproved by the GCB & WICB since it includes West Indies International players.
Promoter of the Event Paul ‘DJ Stress’ Bonar apologizes for the postponement is which beyond the control of the organizers but promised something ‘special’ on the new date which will be announced shortly.
“We want to put on a spectacular show as international t20 players take to the Albion sward for the first time under lights. Without the West Indies players the fans would be robbed of seeing the best in the business perform so it’s in the best interest of everyone involved we wait until the players are available,” explained Bonar.
Guyanese Leon Johnson, Rajendra Chandrika, Devendra Bishoo, Vishaul Singh and Keon Joseph are set to leave on Friday for the camp in Barbados.
He said tickets are printed and ready to go, while TV commercials were set to begin in Berbice this week. The Organizers have agreed to reduce the cost for tickets to $1,000 for all stands and a capacity crowd is anticipated on the new date sometime next month.
There is a game between a team from Suriname, who will battle a Berbice line-up from 16:00hrs, while the feature match involves big names like Chris Gayle, Andrew Russell, Daren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Assad Fudadin, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul, will commence at 20:00hrs.
Bonar said the facebook promotion of the mega Event has already generated plenty of interest and excitement not only in Guyana but also overseas, adding that the t20 Cup could be held on a Saturday so that most of those traveling to Berbice will not have to work the next day and can overnight in Guyana’s second largest County.
