Biting of policemen…Wanted teen nabbed at grandparents’ home
The 19-year-old who escaped from the police on Sunday after his grandmother bit the ranks has been captured at the grandparents’ Blairmont, West Bank Berbice home.
According to information the teenager, who is a labourer, was wanted for a number of misdemeanors, and at around 10.00 hrs on Sunday, a police constable and a member of a community policing group spotted him standing outside his grandparents’ home.
When the ranks tried to arrest him, his grandparents, both aged 64, pulled their grandson away from the arresting officers. It was then that the grandmother bit the officers.
The teen also held onto the constable’s service revolver, causing six rounds to be discharged. The suspect then fled.
Both policemen were treated at the Fort Wellington Hospital and discharged.
The grandparents were taken into custody and are likely to appear in court today.
