The Demerara Cricket Club coaching camp concluded Friday with a simple ceremony at their Queenstown based location.
In addressing the participants, President of the club Alfred Mentore urged the students
to remain committed to the game and stay focused on their education.
He pointed out to the youths that their participation in the game is not limited to the field, as they are now opportunities for persons to engage the areas of coaching, commentary, and statisticians among others.
Mentore made mention of Jordon Nelson, who came to the camp not knowing much about the game but instead of gravitating towards the on-field action, he quickly became abreast with the correct scoring and the rules of the sport.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Ministry Alfred King stated that the camp should be a model for other sporting institutions and developing sports men and women, while Coach Gavin Nedd challenged the young cricketers to build on the knowledge gained and the need to conduct self-training if they wish to reach the summit.
In closing, the club President thanked all the sponsors for their support and future partnerships for such programmes.
The camp which catered for the persons from as young as four years old, focused on teaching its pupils areas such as public speaking, health and nutrition, the necessity of fitness, the rules of the games and as well as the technical on-field play.
Several of the top performers received trophies while each attendee took home a certificate of participation.
