The King at City Hall lacks the Midas touch

Dear Editor,
One of the more popular fables one read as a child was that of ‘King Midas’ who had a touch of gold whereby everything he touched turned to gold. In Georgetown we have our own ‘King’ but he is quite the opposite, whereby everything he touches turns to you know what. The itinerant and pavement vendors were doing quite well, selling their products when King came along and touched them, they are now in a jumbled mess at the corners of Hadfield and Lombard Streets.
The barbers, tattoo artists, cosmetologists, and hairdressers were doing quite well providing their services on America Street and elsewhere, King came along and touched them and now they turn out to be one big public health mess on the Merriman’s Mall under some flimsy tents, without the requisite hygienic standards.
Motorists were doing quite well in the city finding suitable parking wherever they wanted, along came King who decided to make a mess of the parking, by illegally contracting a dubious company to place financial hardship on vehicle owners. Municipal workers were accustomed to receiving their salaries on time and their deductions for GRA and NIS paid over in a timely manner then King came along and made a mess of this with workers now waiting for weeks to be paid and months to have these statutory deductions paid over.
Store owners and other business persons had a well-oiled arrangement where the items they shipped in by container, would be towed to their bonds or stores where they would offload and the empty container returned to the shipyard. Then came King who started to charge them 25,000 a piece and block the containers from leaving the wharves, making and making a mess of the entire importation process.The Merriman’s Mall was a nice open space in the city, that commemorated a former mayor once again King made a mess of this, cluttering this area with wholesaler booths, roadside barbershops etc. I just hope that our King stops touching things in our capital.
