Renee McDonald, a member of the recently established Bid Protest Committee (BPC), was reported to
have resigned from the committee in an article captioned “Chair of Bid Protest Committee Resigns” in the Wednesday, July 27, edition of Stabroek News.
In a release to the media, McDonald wrote a three line statement which said “The Stabroek News article captioned ‘Chair of Bid Protest Committee Resigns’ published in its July 27, 2016 edition is false.” She added that she never told Stabroek News that she was appointed the Chair of the BPC. She said that she did not tell the newspaper that she had resigned from the committee.
When contacted by Kaieteur News, the writer of the article, Marcelle Thomas, said that she will leave the matter in the hands of her Editor-in-Chief.
The BPC recently got its first case, when the Cevons Waste Management group filed a complaint with regard to the bidding and awarding process for the Haags Bosch landfill site that was eventually given to the Puran Bros.
While Puran Bros maintained that it was suitably qualified and met all requirements for managing the site, Cevons officials said that they were not satisfied with the bidding and awarding process for the landfill site. They even accused the government of favouritism.
In a recent release to the press, the Ministry of Communities made it clear that in the process of awarding the contract for the management of the Haags Bosch Sanitary Landfill, “All the reasonable standards and procedures of civility, ethics and integrity were followed.”
The Ministry noted that at no time will it seek to deny any interested stakeholder the opportunity to contribute to the integrity and reliability of the process that will lead to improved solid waste management.
The Ministry further said that it will act in accordance with the necessary provisions to secure the environmental integrity in the operation of sanitary landfills.
The Ministry assured the public that in the case of the other Municipal landfill facilities, no effort will be spared to ensure the highest standards of integrity, civility and ethics.
The Ministry highlighted the fact, that any bidder has the right to appeal to the Procurement Board in instances of dissatisfaction.
The Ministry of Communities stated, that they have completely submitted themselves to the BPC in the present matter of the Haags Bosch Sanitary Landfill site.
