Deputy Mayor forced to ride bicycle …after opposing Parking Meter project

Since assuming office on April 1, last, Deputy Mayor Sherod Duncan has not been granted a vehicle or a driver, but has instead been forced to do his duties around the city on a bicycle.
The excuse offered by the Mayor, was that former Deputy Mayors before him used their own vehicles.
Duncan, who is senior to the other council officers, noted that the Town Clerk, Solid Waste Management Director, City Treasurer, City Engineer and the Chief Constable are all provided with vehicles by the City Council.
Another sore issue raised by the Deputy Mayor is that a couch which was thrown out by former Mayor Hamilton Green, long before he left office, was put into Duncan’s office. He continued that while he was told by the Town Clerk that he could procure a new one; he subsequently got a quotation for a new couch, but to date his request has not been approved.
According to Duncan, he learnt that his office was entitled to a $20,000 monthly allowance for miscellaneous items, and a cell phone allowance of $20,000.
The Deputy Mayor noted that he pays his own phone bill. He said that the Town Clerk signs off these payments every month, but to date he has not seen a cent.
Some would be inclined to think that these seemingly spiteful and oppressive acts against the Deputy Mayor are a result of his strong opposition of the controversial Parking Meter deal that is championed by Mayor Patricia Chase-Green and Town Clerk Royston King.
The Deputy Mayor vowed that despite these adversities he will continue to carry out his duties to the best of his ability, regardless of whether he has to ride his bicycle or foot it around Georgetown.
