Teams battle for Mayor’s Cup quarterfinal places Saturday at GFC

Teams will battle on Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground as they look to book quarterfinal places in the Mayor’s Cup football championship. A triple header has been fixed for the city venue starting from 5:00pm and the proceedings for the evening have been sponsored by the Sparta Family, managers of the Sparta Boss football team.
Saturday’s action opens at 5:00pm with Camptown battling Pouderoyen. Santos challenge Beacons in the next match from 7:00pm, while Western Tigers tangle with Den Amstel at 9:00pm in the night cap.
The winners are assured of places in the quarter finals as they all will hope to move onto the respective semi-finals and grand final, with the hope of claiming the top prize of $700,000 and a trophy donated by Aruwai Resort. The second place team pockets $300,000 and the Ansa McAl trophy, while the third place team carts off $200,000 and the John Fernandes trophy. The fourth place finishers will receive $100,000 and the Ministry of State trophy. Ricks and Sari has also donated hampers which will go to the winning team, while tournament’s top goal scorer will get a three piece suite compliments of AH&L Kissoon Furniture Store.
Action continues on Sunday this time at the Victoria ground on the East Coast with another triple header from 5:00pm. Police play Uitvlugt in the first game, while Rhythm Squad oppose Eagles of Linden at 7:00pm, while at 9:00pm Ann’s Grove oppose Cougars.
Top Brandz of Broad and High Streets, distributors of Interstate vehicle batteries, is among the key sponsors on board assisting the tournament. Aruwai Resort of the Essequibo River is also another main supporter of this year’s event and Coordinator Lennox Arthur has expressed thanks to all the sponsors.
Apart from Aruwai Resort and Top Brandz, among others on board include: Ansa McAl, Minister of State Joe Harmon and his ministry, John Fernandes, Ricks and Sari and AH&L Kissoon.
