Fitness Express has joined in supporting the Youth Cricket Mentorship Programme along with the initial sponsors Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company, BodyMaxx Gym, Attorney at Law, Sanjeev Datadin and Attorney at Law and Member of Parliament, Charles Ramson, which was launched some eight months ago.

The three players who were awarded the contracts were wicketkeeper/batsman, Ronaldo Renee, all-rounder, Malcolm Hubbard of Everest Cricket Club and all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford of Demerara Cricket Club.
Rutherford was subsequently awarded a contract from the Guyana Cricket Board so could no longer benefit from the programme. However, the programme is progressing with Renee and Hubbard having very successful seasons after being selected for the Demerara U-19 team and are now being considered for selection in the Guyana U-19 team.
The contracts and a mentorship programme for a duration of one year is valued at over $600,000 each, inclusive of a $30,000 monthly stipend, gym membership from BodyMaxx Gym, a new smart-phone, cricket gears, clothing and now nutritional supplements from Fitness Express.
The contracts were awarded on a competitive basis after a trial, gruelling fitness test and interview held at the Everest Cricket Club in November last year. The programme is the brain child of Ramson.
“The success of the programme so far shows that businesses and companies need to see, and appreciate, that they also have a big role to play in harnessing talent in the country they do business in by providing opportunities through sponsorship,” Ramson said.
“Everyone wants to know that they are making a difference so I have no doubt that sponsors GTT+, Bodymaxx Gym, Sanjeev Datadin and Fitness Express, which took the jump and the risk by joining this pilot programme will be pleased with its progress so far,” he concluded.
