A 24-year-old security guard is feared dead after the boat in which he was a passenger, collided with an
object in the Mazaruni River and capsized. The incident reportedly occurred around 21:00 hrs on Sunday.
Up to press time, a team was still searching for the body of Boris Blair.
According to information received, Blair was working with the owner of a dredge as a security guard and left his employment site to go to a shop some miles further up the river with three workers when tragedy struck.
A police source said that based on reports, the boat collided with a tree that was floating in the river and then capsized.
The workers reported hearing Blair screaming in the rough waters and swimming towards a tree, but when they managed to swim there, he was nowhere to be found.
Police suspected that Blair might have been injured when the boat capsized and he drowned.
Blair’s employer said while it is strange that the man left the compound, she does not suspect foul play. The woman, whose name has not been given, noted that she would usually warn her employees about being in the river late at night.
