A little over a week after being struck down by a car on the West Bank Demerara Public Road, thirteen-year-old Shemar Henry and forty-four-year-old Wazir Ali are still hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).

Henry sustained a fractured skull and severe internal injuries and is still hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of GPHC.
Ali, who is employed as a driver with Non Governmental Organization (NGO) World University Canada, was reportedly visiting a relative on the West Bank of Demerara and was awaiting a bus on the road when the accident occurred. As a result of the accident, Ali’s left leg had to be amputated and he is still in the male ward of GPHC. The driver of the vehicle that slammed into the two persons is said to be a pastor.
The accident was caught on surveillance cameras from nearby buildings. This publication acquired a video which clearly shows that the driver of the aforementioned motor vehicle was going at a fast rate when he struck Henry and Ali, ran into the back of a parked car (PLL 7887) and ended up in the trench.
Footage from a nearby bar, shows the driver of PLL 7887 parking and then walking into a store, a mere five seconds later it shows three young men walking in the corner of the roadway, two of the youths managed to evade the oncoming vehicle, while Henry was struck and flung into the air, landing on a nearby vehicle. The car continued on its deadly path and smashed into Ali who was standing at a bus stop.
According to sources, despite video evidence the errant driver continues to deny any wrongdoing, one person said he even got children to lie and say that the driver of PLL 7887 was driving off when the accident occurred which is contrary to what the video footage clearly shows; that his car slammed into the two persons and the parked vehicle.
The mother of the injured teenager speaking to this publication stated that the driver initially gave her $40,000 but it has been over a week since her son was hospitalised and that money has since finished. The visibly shaken woman noted that the man has not visited her son or the other victim, Wazir Ali to date.
The relatives of both victims are appealing to the relevant authorities to take action; they maintained that they need justice. Henry’s mother noted that to her knowledge police have not detained the driver and no charges have been levelled against him.
