Due date for submission of Income Tax returns extended
Government has announced a two-week extension for persons submitting their Income Tax Returns.
The deadline for the returns was supposed to be last week.
However, according to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) in a notice published in Kaieteur News over the weekend, due to the challenges being experienced by taxpayers as a result of the changes on the income tax return form and the completion of same, it has been decided to extend the time.
“…And in an effort to ensure taxpayers are not disenfranchised, the Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, has given the Commissioner General of GRA permission to grant an extension for the submission of the Income Tax Returns.”
As such, for the year of assessment 2016, taxpayers will be allowed to submit their returns on or before May 13, 2016.
“It should be noted that persons submitting their returns during this period will not be subject to the 2 percent late filing penalty,” GRA said.
