Easter means a lot to children residing in the hinterland community of Mashabo, in Region Two. In fact, it is regarded as a strong family tradition. On Easter Monday, children were seen flying their kites on the community ground from around 9:00 hours.
Interestingly, however, on Easter Sunday, the children flew “bird kites” while on Monday, they flew the stronger types of kites, the likes of the “board frame” and the “E-T kites” built by their fathers. Meanwhile, in the Pomeroon River, the children utilized the school playfields to fly their kites because those were the only open spaces available to them. On the Coast, traditionally, parents used to accompany their children to the beach to fly their kites. However, over the years this area has been evolving into a beach party fete where barbecues and fish fries have become an Easter Monday norm in the Region.
Police of “G” Division under the supervision of Commander, Kevin Adonis, distributed kites to the children living in Lima Sands, while Puran Brothers Company made a similar donation to children living in the Charity community. (Yannason Duncan)
