JAILED: Sadeeka Odie
four years’ imprisonment, after she was found guilty of trafficking over 18 pounds of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
The woman, Sadeeka Odie, 41, of Lot 186 Thomas Street Kitty, Georgetown, had 9.27kilograms of cocaine in her possession on February 8, 2014, at CJIA for the purpose of trafficking.
Odie, who was represented by Attorney Dexter Todd, was also ordered to pay a fine of $30,000.
Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Police Corporal Bharrat Mangru called a total of three witnesses. Mangru contended that on the day in question, Odie was an outgoing passenger on Caribbean Airline Flight BW 526 destined for the John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport, New York. Based on information received CANU ranks removed Odie from the aircraft and conducted a search on her suitcase. The cocaine was found concealed in achar.
Odie, a mother of five, first appeared before Former Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on February 10, 2014, and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
