Eight football clubs on the West Demerara will be locking horns from today as they seek the spoils in the West Demerara Mash Knockout Cup 2016 which kicks off at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground with two matches.
It will be a West Bank vs West Coast Demerara face off tonight when Pouderoyen throw down the gauntlet to Stewartville in the opening match at 18:30hrs. In the main encounter, Uitvlugt Warriors will come up against Beavers. Fans are in for two potentially explosive showdowns with the teams all having their sights set on the top prize of $200,000.
Second place attracts $100,000 while third and fourth is $75,000 and $50,000, respectively. The four remaining teams will take center stage on Sunday from 18:30hrs when Eagles of Stewartville engage Golden Warriors formerly Bagotville; Den Amstel will then challenge for the final semi-final place when they take on Wales.
Among the sponsors of board are the Region, National Sports Commission, Mr. Khan’s Establishment and Forrester Lumber Yard, among others. Den Amstel FC is the organiser of the tournament.
