The Berbice Cricket Board has saluted young Berbician Shimron Hetmyer for leading the West Indies under-19 team to their first ever victory in the ICC 2016 Youth World Cup in Bangladesh. Below is the press release from the board:
“BCB went through many trials and challenges for the past years but stood strong and kept cricket alive in the ancient county so that players can continue to emerge as did the winning captain of Youth World Cup 2016, Shimron Hetmyer. The BCB is proud of his achievement and that of his team. Shimron is the first West Indies under-19 captain to win a youth World Cup and we are happy that he is from Berbice. Kudos must also be given to the other players and the team management.”
The release continued to say that that title eluded many before and Shimron had what it took to come out victorious against pre tournament favorites, India.
“In closing, the board wishes to once again congratulate Shimron Hetmyer and the West Indies under-19 team for winning the tournament.”
