GFF represented at Club licensing seminar in Panama
Trio to leave today for Pitch Maintenance Seminar in Barbados
The Guyana Football Federation was represented by its Director of Competitions Ian Alves at a two-day Club Licensing seminar organized by CONCACAF in conjunction with FIFA at the Sortis Hotel in Panama.

Held January 27-28, 2016, the workshop provided a unique educational platform that was highlighted by access to experts from the region including Enrique Bonilla, President of Liga MX; Juan Carlos Rojas, President of Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica; and Karina LeBlanc, a recently retired Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper and former Canada international.
The event offered a comprehensive overview of professional league administration, case studies such as the successful implementation of the club licensing programme by the Barbados Football Association, best practices to conduct a stadium inspection, and insights into the future of FIFA and CONCACAF club licensing.
CONCACAF’s goal is to support Member Associations in the development of leagues and clubs at all levels — men’s, women’s, futsal and beach soccer. In 2016, the Confederation plans to launch strategies to support further the growth a women’s football.
The advancement of club football is directly related to key performance indicators within the areas of infrastructure, sporting, administration, finance, legal and social responsibility. Since the national criteria was established January 2015 at a seminar held in Miami, several Member Associations have already started awarding club licenses at a local level.
Commenting on his attendance, Alves, who started with the GFF in the last week of September, 2015 said that it was a good programme and this was a follow up one that was held last year. He further noted that it was very insightful and augurs well for the continued strengthening and development of the game in Guyana, CFU and CONCACAF.
Meanwhile, Alves along with the GFF Deputy General Secretary Moreson Jones and Slingerz Football Club Manager Colin Aaron will leave Guyana tonight for a Pitch Maintenance Seminar to be held in Barbados that will be facilitated by FIFA.
