Dear Editor,
My friend and colleague, Lesley Benjamin, Esq.: Company Secretary/Legal Officer of the Guyana Oil Company Ltd (thereafter “Guyoil”) resigned her position after her position as Managing Director (ag) was withdrawn (this was revoked by an unanimous decision by the new Board of Directors (thereafter “BOD”). Her Managing Director (ag) (Thereafter “MD”) position was revoked after a campaign of vicious lies were leveled against her to the Ministry of Finance by the BOD. However, the final straw was when she found out the new acting MD’s allowances was more than what she was receiving.
Lesley is a highly, qualified certified attorney licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey and now Guyana since 2013, when she was called up to the bar. She remigrated to Guyana to be with her husband leaving behind, her million dollars practice in real estate. After Mr. Badrie Persaud was sent on leave after the change in government, she was more than qualified to perform as Managing Director (ag) after the staff and Guyoil’s management felt she was capable. Under her brief watch, the current employees had a new boost in morality, the companies’ discrimination policies were restructured, managers were giving a new obligation to perform duties without interference from the MD and the BOD, and most importantly the company achieved profits in the billions. Lesley brought a new air to Guyoil. She is one classy lady with her bright colorful skirt, dresses, jewelry, persona and her smile. I think it was the smile that charmed the employees. They will miss her, with some exception. Cassann Owens Attorney-at-law
