An 18-year-old was yesterday remanded to prison for allegedly chopping his gay lover on Monday, during a cutlass brawl.
Matthew Williams of lot 595 ‘B’ Field Sophia, appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell, after being charged with unlawfully and maliciously assaulting Richie Wiltshire, with intent to murder him.
The accused, had no legal representation, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
He will make another court appearance on January 22.
Police Prosecutor, Lance Corporal David Goodridge told the court that the two men had an intimate relationship for almost a year.
He said that on the day in question, the lovers were at Wiltshire’s grandmother’s house when an argument ensued between the two.
According to Goodridge, Wiltshire grabbed a cutlass and chopped Williams. There was a scuffle between the men and Williams relieved his partner of the weapon and dealt him chops to the back, head and hand.
Both men were treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Williams was treated and sent away but Wiltshire is in a critical condition at the institution.
The Prosecutor made objections to bail citing the seriousness of the offence. He further told the court that Wilshire is still hospitalized
