The Guyana Police Force is placing the public on alert about the circulation of a
number of forged firearm approvals.
In a release, police said that in order to prevent being a victim of this scam, members of the public are advised that no money is required for the processing of firearm applications, and that the procedure on the results of their application is through the post.
Kaieteur News understands that the scam came to light after a victim contacted the police.
Ranks from the Police Fraud Squad are attempting to contact the forger.
A police official said that the ‘firearm approvals’, which purport to bear the signature of Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud, were obvious forgeries, and said that the forger did a ‘bad job.’
“The signature of the Commissioner of Police was forged, the letterhead and the Police Force badge were all forged,” the source said.
