Dear Editor,
I recall hearing many years ago that not everything one reads in the newspapers should be taken ‘as gospel’. According to one journalist, “the only thing that can be relied on in a newspaper is a portion of fish and chips and even that should be taken with a pinch of salt”.
Now, we have to cope with the electronic field and one has to question whether their contributors always tell it the way it is. Today, I heard a political journalist state on the radio that Venezuela is in financial straits and it is difficult to get even a roll of toilet paper! I was surprised, given the apparent build-up of military hardware, etc. near Guyana’s territorial space. Are we witnessing a game of bluff and counter-bluff?
One hopes Guyanese can hold on to what is rightfully and legally theirs. With the USA President fervently ‘wooing’ the Chinese nation, perhaps their strong presence in Guyana might help. Geralda Dennison
