In a direct attempt to expand the base of table tennis through engagement, Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is preparing to serve its grassroots programme in communities under what it is labelling a “Three Parks Initiative”.
Under the first phase, the association will construct table tennis boards at the National Park, Hits and Jams Water World at Providence and California Square, East Ruimveldt. The programme is set to form part of the GTTA decentralisation initiative.
According to the GTTA President, Godfrey Munroe, who spoke with Kaieteur Sport briefly yesterday, the initiative is geared at building the base of the sport while introducing communities to the novelty aspect of the sport, which has a novice category.
“This will be the catalyst for a major programme in communities, parks, grounds, community centres, and some schools,” Munroe said, adding that the GTTA is taking the development of the sport to the communities as opposed to just hosting events.
