Two escape from N/A prison
Lawmen in Berbice and beyond were last night on high alert after two prisoners, remanded on robbery charges, escaped from the New Amsterdam Prison on Penitentiary Walk.
Up to press time, details of the breakout were sketchy, but Kaieteur News was reliably informed that around 21:35 hours the men broke out of a wooden cell, scaled the facility’s fence and escaped.
This publication confirmed that just before midnight, heavily-armed police ranks and prison officers were scouring the area and its environs in search of the escapees.
