DEAR EDITOR,
The two recent photographs of PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and President Granger is indeed of great importance to all Guyanese who believe in the concept of : “you are my brother’s keeper” ; in the concept of racial and ethnic unity and in the concept of Caribbean unity.
These pictures spoke a million words and in my humble opinion, from the actions taken to aid Guyana in its time of need (the Venezuelan threat), PM Persad-Bissessar is also showing her pleasure and confidence in the election of President Granger.
In my opinion, Ms. Persad-Bissessar was not at all impressed by the likes of Mr. Jagdeo or Mr. Ramotar, and most likely would have placed them in the same category as her political nemesis, former PM Basdeo Panday, a leader with a lot of skeletons in his closet.
It is no secret that former PM Panday of Trinidad was involved in shady governance and Ms. Bissessar was the instrument of Panday’s political demise when she unseated him, then formed a coalition and won power; she had to be aware of what was transpiring in Guyana with PPP rule tainted by corruption and scandal – all PPP big shots being good friends of Basdeo Panday.
In my opinion, as I have said before, PM Persad-Bissessar is a true no-nonsense leader, not corrupt, and not likely to tolerate corruption in her government, and furthermore, a leader committed to forming alliances to maintain coalition politics.
The very fact that Mr. Granger has led a coalition to bring changes with good governance gives these two leaders common ground on which both of our countries can benefit – and we in Guyana are already enjoying the solid support Kamla gave us when she was the first Caricom leader to pledge Trinidad’s help against any Venezuela aggression; she has also sent two shiploads of oil to Guyana as the Venezuelans are shutting down agreements which Guyana counted on.
Guyanese should remember that this same Maduro of Venezuela who is trying to steal our wealth was the only state visitor who Donald Ramotar invited here, treating him like royalty, while kowtowing to his communist inclinations.
There are a lot of hypocrites in the opposition PPP. Rohee tries to infer that President Granger is for “ethnic cleansing” and only for one race etc, etc. but the truth of the matter is clear for anyone to see, and that clarity is in those same pictures I referred to in the beginning of this letter.
If our President is what Clement Rohee claims, then, seeing the Trinidad elections are right around the corner, according to Rohee and the others who inhabit Freedom House, Mr. Granger would have never been seen with Kamla, but would have sidled up to Mr. Rowley, the Afro-Trinidadian opposition leader.
The pictures of these two leaders with those genuine smiles signal new and exciting things to come for our country’s benefit and when PM Persad-Bissessar wins the next election in T&T later this year, it will be at least four years of a new, creative, bilateral, economic, political and social relationship between our countries which can only bring a better future, because these two leaders will stand out as non-corruptible and committed to good governance – symbols of what Caricom countries should all strive for.
