Courts Guyana Inc. yesterday launched the fifth edition of their annual 10km Road Race at their Main Street Store with the event scheduled for September 20 and just over $1.3M handed over to the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) to administrate the race.
The winners in the male and female open categories will receive $100,000 each while the second place finishers will get $75,000; third $50,000; fourth $30,000 and fifth $20,000.
President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson thanked Courts for their support and highlighted that the biggest change this year will be the new logistics in place.
“We want to ensure this year that our logistics team is much better than last year, we plan to have at least three medical teams as part of this event,” he said, adding that the event is important owed to the expectation that this year’s South American 10km race should feature athletes from all the South American nations.
Managing Director of Courts, Clyde De Hass said that it is the social and corporate responsibility of Courts to help develop sports in Guyana.
“It is part of our corporate social responsibility to help develop sport and we want to further develop athletics in Guyana,” De Hass said.
Meanwhile, distance athlete and the favourite to win the event again, Cleveland Forde, who was at the presentation ceremony, assured that he will do his best to continue his dominance.
The winners of the male and female junior categories will receive a training voucher of $60,000 while second will receive $40,000. Third place will receive $30,000; fourth $20,000 and fifth $10,000. The masters will be receiving hampers and trophies only.
