Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, met with representatives of three Town Councils in Region Six yesterday as part of a ground development initiative under the Department of Culture, Youth, and Sports Community Ground Enhancement Fund.
Jones met with officials in Rose Hall, New Amsterdam and Corriverton. “All the municipalities were appreciative of me coming. They said that this never happened before, in terms of someone reaching out to them, instead of the other way around,” Jones said.
His visit was an effort to ascertain the community grounds in the areas controlled by the various municipalities and the work that needs to be done. It is part of his countrywide drive to improve community facilities to enhance youth participation and development of sport.
Jones’ vision for sport development is to construct multi-purpose centres, which will cater to the needs of the differently able and encourage more female participation, two areas that he says are “much neglected” in local sports.
