This year’s Trinidad Cement Ltd. (TCL), Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Cricket Academy and Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd Grade 6 Students Summer Camp commenced on Tuesday July, 7.
The Academy started off with a total of 65 students under the guidance of coaches Winston Smith and Delbert Hicks who are being assisted by Berbice Senior Player Eon Hooper. Over the next two weeks, the young players which include several females would be exposed to the basics of batting, bowling, fielding and physical fitness.
They would also benefit from several lectures on topics including History of Cricket, Importance of Discipline, Peer Pressure and Laws of Cricket among others. The Grade 6 Summer Camp is being conducted by Educator Rohan Etwaroo of the Port Mourant Secondary School and its main objective is to prepare students for a successful transition from Primary to Secondary School.
The Club also hopes to get the youths involved in sports as an alternative to a life on the streets. RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that there are still a limited amount of spaces available in both programmes and interested parents can contact the Club office on Telephone # 337 4562 for more information.
