Since the year began, there has been an alarming number of robbery under arms cases heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. Almost every day there are cases of such nature and most of the perpetrators are between the ages of 18 and 25.
Yesterday was no different, Twenty-year-old Keon Simon was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Simon, a construction worker, of 53 West La Penitence Housing Scheme, is accused of robbing Marcia Rampersaud at gunpoint on June 3, last. He allegedly stole two gold rings valued $40,000 and a white metal gold chain valued $20,000, property of the said Rampersaud.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison until Thursday.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne, objected to bail citing the seriousness, prevalence and penalty attached to the offence. She also noted that the items were recovered in the defendant’s possession, and he was positively identified by the victim.
