The second largest supplier of football kit in the world, Admiral Sportswear which also supplies a number of cricket playing nations including the West Indies, is the new kit sponsor of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
This was disclosed by GFF Normalisation Committee Chairman, Clinton Urling yesterday. Described as a textile company, headquartered in Leicester, England and founded since 1914, Admiral will outfit all the national teams of the GFF as well as all the teams that will be participating in the federation’s Elite League which will kick off in August.
“The GFF will be the official authorized distributor of all admiral products in Guyana. So the GFF now from a revenue standpoint can open stores and sell the products as much as possible. We’ve already signed the deal.”
Urling described the deal as very handsome to the GFF. “The only obligation is that we use their name with some minimum amount of supplies that we need to buy which just looking at our national teams alone we meet the minimum easy just to outfit them.”
Meanwhile, Urling also confirmed that Guyana’s Lady Jaguars, the only national team to reach CONCACAF finals, would also be participating in the Women’s Olympic Qualifying competition, Group 4, set for August 21 – 25 against host St. Kitts & Nevis and Cuba.
“We are reactivating the women’s squad and we will be sending the best team to the Olympic Qualifiers in August.”
Meanwhile, Kaieteur Sport understands that Aruba has pulled out of hosting the Men’s Olympic Qualifying Group 2 which includes Guyana, Antigua & Barbuda and Cuba. Urling did indicate that the GFF is considering hosting another big tournament here in June but stopped short of saying exactly which tournament.
“I am not making any announcements as yet until we seal the deal with CFU and CONCACAF.”
Some major sponsors would also be back on board soon with the GFF Urling shared.
