At least 54 people have been slain since the start of the year.

This is according to statistics compiled by Kaieteur News. The facts also show that 11 women are among the victims.
Three of them were minors, while two of them were elderly women who lived alone. They include Sophia arson victim Tabola Abrams, 39; businesswoman Patricia Sanasie; 19-year-old Shazina Mahamad; Ramdai Mohabir, 67; Suroogpattie Ramlakan, 73; Quineza Patricia Benn; Alicia Ali, 14; Samantha Benjamin, 40; 17-year-old Davykumarie Ramadar and Alicia Mc Pherson, 17 and Donessa Barker, 28.
Barker was stabbed to death on Thursday in Bagotville, East Bank Demerara, allegedly by her husband who was still at large yesterday.
The Force’s Public Relations Department had reported that there were 47 murders between January and April 13, 2015, in comparison to 41 for the similar period last year. This is a 15 percent increase in homicides.
Police also recorded a four percent increase in serious crimes between January and April 13, 2015, in comparison to the same period in 2014.
Among the serious crimes listed by the Force are murder, robbery under arms, robbery with violence, robbery with aggravation, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.
But police said that for that same period, robbery under arms overall had decreased by 19 percent in comparison to the same period in 2014.
