DEAR EDITOR,
When Donald Ramotar arrived in Bartica, as the people observed his statements, all they could have seen is a clueless and confused politician. As his every step was analyzed for signs of change, all they found was a slavish commitment to a continuation of a broken ideology called ‘Jagdeoism’ of “borrow more, tax more and spend more on friends and family”.
Donald Ramotar has learnt nothing from the message that the people sent to him in 2011. If he had really listened to the people since 2011, he would have by now dumped Jagdeo and his “ism” and this family invasion onto the PPP List of Candidates would have never happened.
We would have seen a set of creative new policies to fixing age-old problems in Guyana, such as measures to create the new jobs, cleaning up the garbage, providing greater access to functional literacy, more responsiveness of the health care system and most importantly, the creation of new opportunities for our people.
What we got instead at Bartica was more promises being regurgitated from 2011, because none of them were fulfilled. What we got was more debt since 2011, a depletion of the foreign reserves since 2011, more corruption in the Government since 2011 and greater examples of plundering of the Treasury by the PPP operatives.
What we see on the PPP stage are a group of individuals who act entitled to office like if they were born as monarchs to rule Guyana forever, irrespective of their public performance. The disrespect for themselves, their office and the people has gone so far that on the voters’ list, some of them do not have a profession but list themselves as Ministers and President. How more “dotish” can these people get?
Ramotar comes across tired and as someone who is campaigning as a necessary duty to help the PPP reach its goal since he is nothing but the fifth wheel to the PPP coach of corruption. He is rusty on the message and at every rally he complements his lack of readiness with a message from Jagdeo that is populated with half-truths and treachery. Thus this is all theatrics, not a genuine “campaign of care” for the welfare of the people.
So clearly voters will not find the PPP campaign as honest, authentic and empathetic enough to trust them with their welfare. All the Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal has done over the last decade was provide empty promises and divert huge chunks of the Treasury to private deals that enrich their friends and family. Is this why Ramotar wants to be president? To continue more of the same?
Let the facts reveal that his son failed Guyana condignly and lost some G$10 billion on an incomplete and non-functional ICT project that was supposed to empower and facilitate an e-government effort. This project was started since 2008 and still remains incomplete after billions have been sunk into it and now lost forever thanks to the gross incompetence and poor project management leadership from an extremely inexperienced project head. As a reward for his gross incompetence, he was bequeathed with a place on the PPP list of candidates in these 2015 elections.
It is public actions like this that has now cemented Donald Ramotar into a politically and personally diminished position and which will cause him to lose these elections to a more genuine and robust team in the form of Dagga and Nagga. And if he does not know who are Dagga and Nagga, he is out of touch with the people.
