A gold miner was released on $75,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after it was alleged that he had a quantity of ecstasy in his possession.
Adonis Fletchman, 25, of 76 Garnett Street, Campbellville, denied that on February 25, he had in his possession 1.9 grams of the illicit drug in his possession.
Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the drug was found on a shelf in the defendant’s bedroom. He said that the accused told the police the tablets were medication for pressure.
Grant further told the court that the tablets were tested at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where the results were proven to be ecstasy.
Fletchman’s attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat asked that his client be released on bail because he has no knowledge of the drug since it was found in a house he was renting.
The prosecutor did not object to bail because the man was charged under section four of the narcotic act which states that the offence is bailable.
Fletchman will return to court tomorrow.
