Cornell Grimes, a resident of Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, yesterday pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge against him, read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It was alleged that on January 24, last, Grimes along with two accomplices robbed Terrence Meusa of one gold and diamond ring worth US$2300, US$960 and $360,000 in cash, while Meusa was returning to his home in Roxanne Burnham Gardens.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Grant in his submission to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that on the day in question, Grimes and two others confronted Meusa and that during the confrontation, Grimes reportedly armed himself with a bottle.
Grimes allegedly dealt Meusa several stabs about his body until the bottle broke. He then took the items and ran away.
Meusa reported his account of the incident to the East Ruimveldt Police Station and later pointed Grimes out.
Attorney Mark Waldron, who represented Grimes, explained that the accused has no previous criminal record and comes from a good home.
The prosecutor objected to bail and the Chief Magistrate remanded Grimes to prison, until his next hearing on February 13, next.
