A 44-year-old labourer who stole a quantity of women’s shoes and clothing from his employer has been remanded to prison.
Sheik Mohammed Mustapha appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It is alleged that on January 18, last, at Georgetown, he stole three pairs of shoes valued $65,000 and a quantity of clothing valued $15,000 – the property of Jeanette Smith.
He pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge.
Though she presented no facts to the Court, Police Prosecutor, Corpora Renetta Bentham opposed bail citing the serious nature and prevalence of the offence. She said that Mustapha has no fixed place of abode and the articles were not recovered.
Bentham went on to say that he had provided the police, with three different addresses – one of which belonged to the virtual complainant (VC).
Meanwhile, Mustapha said that he had been living in the woman’s house since he worked with her. Bail was refused and the case will be called again on January 30.
