Twenty-three year-old, Andrew Ridley of Annadale, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry yesterday, charged with five counts of armed robbery.
The charges state that between December 12 and December 27, 2014 in the vicinity of Georgetown, Ridley robbed five persons. The alleged victims were identified as Tessa Waterman, Curtis John, Kevin Craig, Collin Nelson and Sherwin Gilgeous. Ridley, who did not have a lawyer, pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
The matter was brief given that Prosecutor Michael Grant did not present the facts of the case to the court. Grant however, asked that the defendant be remanded based on the seriousness of the offence and the penalty it attracts. He also pointed out that the defendant used a firearm to commit all the crimes.
The Prosecutor told the court too, that there is a likelihood that Ridley may not return for trial if he is granted bail. As such, the defendant was refused bail. He is scheduled to return to court on January 16.
