What is wrong with the President of Guyana?

DEAR EDITOR,
What is wrong with the President of Guyana? Is this the person who often boasted at Babu John that the PPP brought back democracy to Guyana? Is this the person who, like his mentor, thought the Constitution was so good that they had no need to repeal or change it? Is this the person who exploited a weakness in the Constitution to establish a minority government which is really in serious contradiction to the reason for the establishment of proportional representation as the electoral system? Is this the person who threatened to use the full force of the law against anyone who flouts any provision of the Constitution?
Mr. Ramotar, nowhere in the Constitution is there a provision which says that you have to seek the blessings of a reasonable man to institute the provision of the Constitution dealing with the calling of Local Government Elections. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a provision which indicates that if there is a no-confidence motion pending, the provisions of the Constitution relating to Local Government Elections should be relaxed.
Did you really say, Sir, that it would be rather foolish of you to abide by the Constitution and call Local Government Elections, after the constitutional provisions for Local Government Elections have been deliberately flouted for seventeen years?
As I understand it, the Constitution is the principal law of the land and, according to you, anyone who flouts it should feel the full force of the law. I wonder in this case who should be made to feel the full force of the law? The principal law of the land cannot condone illegality, and flouting the Constitution is an illegal action.
Under the PPP which boasted of “bringing back democracy” to Guyana, my country has degenerated into a morass that was unimaginable in October 1992. Not only have the people been betrayed, but their rights to choose their own leaders have been whittled away by a Machiavellian, uncaring administration which believes that the end justifies the means. No dictatorship has ever survived indefinitely in history, and the PPP is fooling itself that it can carry on riding roughshod over peoples’ rights indefinitely.
Promising to hold Local Government Elections during the second quarter of 2015 fools no one. There were similar promises made before and they did not materialize. The PPP’s has no credibility when it comes to promises for the holding of Local Government Elections, and the populace will only believe they are serious when a date is named for those elections. We need a date, not a promise.
